“Never let a day go by without looking for at least one thing in your life to be happy and grateful for…there will be hundreds of reasons to be grateful, if your focus is on finding them.” Dr Sylvia Forchap-Likambi

As you read these words and reflect on this chapter, I invite you to take a moment to pause. Look around you, look within yourself, and reflect on your life. Write down the things you are most grateful for today. Aim to identify at least ten blessings—things money cannot buy.

These might include your health, the gift of being alive, or the relationships you cherish—starting with your relationship with yourself, and then with your loved ones: your spouse (if you have one), your children (if you have children), and your wider family and friends.

Let me guide you by sharing some examples from my own life—things I am profoundly grateful for that no amount of money could ever purchase:

  • The gift of life: To wake up this morning and experience the gift of life is a privilege for which I am deeply thankful.
  • My health and well-being: I am eternally grateful for the blessing of good health and the well-being that sustains me each day.
  • Relationships with myself, my husband, my children, and my family: These relationships are invaluable—and I am eternally grateful for them. They are uniquely cherished and profoundly enrich my life.
  • My relationship with you: This connection with you, dear reader, is a gift that money cannot buy. It is an extraordinary privilege to be invited into your personal space—your thoughts, your heart—through the words of this book. Whether I speak to you for a few moments, an hour, a week, or a year, I am deeply grateful. I do not take your time, trust, or presence for granted.

You are under no obligation to listen to me or to read this book. You might even wonder, “Who are you, and why should I pay attention to what you write?” Yet, here you are, sharing this moment with me. For this incredible honour and privilege, I sincerely thank you.

As the saying goes, “Gratitude could turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a friend into family, and death into life.”

Now, I encourage you to take a moment for yourself. Reflect on the blessings in your own life. Think of at least three things you are most grateful for today—things that no money could ever purchase. Write them down below.

Your journey into gratitude starts with this simple yet profound exercise. May it open your heart to the beauty and abundance in your life.
